Vera Tree Service provides residential and commercial tree service in Arcadia, including tree removal, trimming and pruning, stump grinding, palm care, landscaping, hardscaping, and lawn care. Arcadia's canopy is not decoration. It is the neighborhood. Around the 127-acre Los Angeles County Arboretum and Santa Anita Park, in Santa Anita Village and Santa Anita Oaks, up through Upper and Lower Rancho, Highland Oaks and the Baldwin Stocker streets, mature coast live oaks were here before most of the houses. The Arboretum's free-roaming peacocks wander the surrounding streets too, which tells you something about how green and unhurried these blocks still feel under the San Gabriel foothills.

Lots here run larger than most of the valley, and so do the jobs: heritage oaks with canopies over pools and guest houses, tall palms along drives, sycamores along the washes, and full landscapes that need a crew comfortable working at estate scale without tearing up the grounds getting in and out. The northern edge, in Highland Oaks toward Little Santa Anita Canyon, adds slope, brush and canyon edge lots to the mix. That is where hillside tree care matters most: thinning crowded growth, structural pruning, and careful removals on graded lots.

Permit note, verified: Arcadia protects oaks, sycamores and certain other mature trees on public and private property. Coast live and Engelmann oaks over 4 inches in trunk diameter are protected, other oaks over 12 inches, and sycamores over 6 inches. Removing a protected tree requires a city tree removal permit, and an approved removal is replaced with a minimum of two new 24-inch box trees. Pruning a protected tree does not need a permit, but it must follow ISA or ANSI standards and you need a written recommendation from a certified arborist first. We flag protected trees at the estimate so the paperwork path is clear before work is scheduled.

What we watch for in Arcadia: oaks stressed by years of drought then over-watered by lawn irrigation, sycamores and other hosts under shot hole borer pressure across the valley, and old trees whose canopies were never structurally pruned now hanging heavy over roofs. On large lots, a planned prune on a schedule almost always beats an unplanned removal. We are a family-owned company, and we would rather keep a good tree standing than sell you a removal you do not need.

Arcadia questions

Before you book

Yes, if it is a protected tree. Arcadia protects coast live and Engelmann oaks over 4 inches in diameter, other oaks over 12 inches, and sycamores over 6 inches, and removing one requires a city tree removal permit. An approved removal is replaced with a minimum of two new 24-inch box trees. We identify and measure the tree at your estimate and tell you which category it falls in.

Pruning a protected tree in Arcadia does not require a tree permit, but the work must follow ISA or ANSI standards and you need a written recommendation from a certified arborist first. We build that into how we quote protected-tree pruning, so the work is documented the way the city expects.

No. Large Arcadia lots are our normal working environment, peacocks included. We plan access and drop zones at the estimate so gates, drives, pool decks and planting beds are protected while a big tree is pruned or removed in sections.
