Patios
Ground-level patios in pavers or concrete, sized to how the space will actually be used and based and graded so water runs away from the home.
Patios, pavers, walkways and concrete that give a yard durable structure, planned around roots and drainage so the flatwork and the trees both last.
Vera Tree Service provides hardscaping for residential and commercial properties across the San Gabriel Valley. Hardscaping is the bones of a yard. The patio where evenings actually happen, the walkway that does not trip anyone, the pavers that turn a muddy side yard into usable ground. Done on a proper base, it lasts for decades; done on shortcuts, it settles, cracks and lifts within a few seasons.
Our family-owned team builds hardscaping across the San Gabriel Valley from our Altadena base, patios, pavers, walkways and concrete flatwork for homes and commercial properties. Our scope is flatwork: surfaces you walk, sit and gather on.
As a tree company, we plan flatwork around the trees you are keeping, root zones, canopy drip lines and future growth, so a new patio and a mature oak are not set on a collision course. Scope and price are agreed in writing before work starts.

Interlocking paver surfaces for patios, courtyards and paths, a wide range of patterns and tones, with proper edge restraint and a compacted base.
Walkways and concrete flatwork that connect the yard cleanly, front walks, side-yard paths and service areas, finished and jointed properly.
Roots are the number-one cause of lifted flatwork in the valley. Magnolia, camphor, ficus and oak roots will find a badly based walkway. Planning means honest conversations at the estimate: route paths around major root zones where possible, choose paver systems that can be lifted and re-laid if a root grows, and, where a tree and a surface truly cannot coexist, say so before concrete is poured, not after it cracks.
Drainage is part of every flatwork quote. Valley downpours send water across yards fast, foothill lots shed water downhill, and a patio graded a fraction the wrong way becomes a pond against the house. Base, grade and, where needed, drainage are scoped with the surface, not as an afterthought.
Permits and HOA rules can apply to flatwork in some cities and communities, and setbacks and drainage rules vary. Where approval may be needed for your project, we flag it at the estimate so you can confirm requirements for your address before work is scheduled.
We measure the area, talk through use, materials and how the surface meets trees, planting and drainage, and agree the scope on site.
Materials, base work, removal of the old surface and the finished scope are priced in writing, no allowance games, no open-ended extras.
Old surface is removed, the base is excavated, compacted and graded, and the surface is laid or poured and finished.
Hardscaping cost is driven by the size of the area, material choice, pavers versus poured concrete and the pattern or finish selected, demolition and removal of the existing surface, excavation and base depth the ground needs, and access for materials and equipment. Tree and root conditions and drainage work in scope move the number as well.
Your quote follows a site measurement and is fixed in writing. If you are phasing a yard, patio now, walkway later, we can structure the plan so phase one is built to meet phase two cleanly.
Patios, pavers, walkways and concrete flatwork. That is our hardscaping scope, surfaces for outdoor living and circulation, planned around your trees and drainage and priced in writing before work starts.
They can, which is why root planning is part of our estimate. Routing around root zones, proper base work and choosing pavers, which can be lifted and re-laid, where a growing root is likely all reduce the risk. Where a tree and a surface cannot coexist, we will tell you up front.
It depends on size, demolition, base conditions and material, and curing time for concrete work. A realistic schedule for your specific project is given with your written quote, we would rather quote an honest timeline than a fast one.
It depends on the city, the size and location of the work, and any HOA rules. Many ground-level projects are straightforward, but requirements vary, we flag anything we see at the estimate so you can confirm what applies at your address.
Yes, and it often should be. Sequencing tree work first, then flatwork, then planting avoids damaging new surfaces and new plants. Combined scopes are planned and priced together so the order of work is clear.
